Craniosacral, Somatic Trauma Therapy & Psychosexual Therapy FAQs…

What happens in a typical session?

Your specific needs will be considered and I will adapt how I work depending on how you are feeling and what emerges from session to session. More specific detail about what happens in a session can be found on the following pages of my website, Craniosacral Therapy and Somatic Trauma Therapy.

Is personal information shared private and confidential?

Confidentiality is a vital part of a therapeutic relationship. Any information you share with me is held within professional boundaries and in strict confidentiality. The notes I keep from our initial consultation and subsequent sessions are brief and generalised while being sensitive and respectful to your privacy.

I take care of your data in accordance with the GDPR. I will never pass your details onto a third party, unless specifically requested (eg as part of a referral process). All client notes and contact details, both online and offline, are stored safely.

How many sessions do I need and how often?

Depending on the particular focus for our work, we begin by negotiating a series of weekly sessions preferably at an agreed time, after which we review progress and decide on the next steps. This means continuing weekly sessions, moving to fortnightly sessions or ending our work together.

Any therapeutic approach is highly contextual and subjective. We all respond in different ways, so the number of sessions needed will vary from one person to another. While I do offer some short term work, I mostly work with people on a long term basis. I consider short term to be between 3-6 months, however I work with some people for longer periods including ongoing therapy.

Many traumatic experiences and psychosexual issues are deeply held within the body and mind. This is an adaptive, protective and very human response as the effects can be overwhelmingly painful and distressing. Another very human response is to wish that the effects would change quickly, even immediately. However, we need to allow enough time to create the internal and external conditions for change. This can be discussed initially and reviewed on a ongoing basis. Whether I am working with someone on a short term of long term basis, I value patience and collaboration to find a pace and way of working that fits you as an individual.

How long is each appointment and what are your fees?

Appointments last 50 minutes, fees are £58 for each session. I accept payment by cash, cheque or bank transfer in which case I would appreciate payment within 3 days of your appointment. Contact me for availability and clinic details.

What if I need to cancellation my appointment?

48 hours notice is required when cancelling or postponing appointments, in which case I will reschedule if possible. The full fee will be payable if appointments are cancelled or postponed with less than 48 hours notice before the session. With enough notice there’s more chance to find another time, it also opens the original time up for someone else.

What do I need to wear?

Just wear your normal clothes. The only clothing I would ask you to remove for the hands-on work is your shoes and possibly your belt, otherwise you remain fully clothed throughout.
