Somatic Trauma Therapy in Brighton and Lewes
What is Somatic Trauma Therapy?
Somatic Trauma Therapy is a body-oriented approach to working with the effects of post traumatic stress. I offer a space for you to explore your responses to stress and trauma, this includes symptoms of PTSD and various types of addictions. We work together to recognise what has helped you this far and process the presenting issues so that you can move beyond the effects of traumatic experiences to a fuller, more integrated sense of self.
Why do people come for Somatic Trauma Therapy?
Feelings of overwhelm can persist following highly stressful and traumatic experiences. Even when the rational mind knows the threat has passed, the subconscious and the body can respond as if it is still present. This can lead to feelings of constantly being “on alert”, fatigue and a range of other symptoms including addiction. With growing awareness, new ways to support wellbeing become available and the residual effects of the trauma change.
What happens in a Somatic Trauma Therapy session?
In Somatic Trauma Therapy, physical, psychological, sensory and emotional responses are explored verbally so they can be acknowledged and processed safely. While my core practice is Craniosacral Therapy, my wide ranging experience and training in Somatic Trauma Therapy and other approaches to trauma resolution are both complementary to and an alternative to the use of touch. Through ongoing negotiation, you may decide that touch does not need to be a part of our work together.
